Submission Guidelines

Advice

The writer’s voice ought to be clear and unique and should explain something of what it means to be human. We want well-written stories that reflect an appreciation for the rhythm and music of language, work that shows passion and commitment to the art of writing.

Submission Types

We accept short stories, flash fiction, personal essays, poetry, photographs and prints of artwork. Please do not submit more than one story at a time. We do not accept submissions via the internet. We do accept simultaneous submissions.

Length

Short Stories:	Fewer than 16 pages
Personal essays:	16 pages
Poetry:	No more than 3 poems
Photos:	Black and white, 8 ½ X 11, maximum 5 photos
Prints:	Black and white, 8 ½ X 11, maximum 5 prints

Cover Letters and Bios

Keep the letter brief, but include all necessary contact information. If a submission is accepted, we will contact the writer by email.

Formatting

Double spaced, single sided, standard font, no unusual formats for prose pieces.
Please send us all submissions, including poetry and flash fiction, in an 8 ½ X 11 envelope.

Previously published work should not be submitted.

Response Time

We receive 20-30 unsolicited manuscripts a month. We try to keep our response time in the 3–6 month range; however, in the past we’ve taken as long as a year to respond to our writers.
